Strikeborn Combo Notation

The shorthand this wiki uses so a route is readable on mobile and on a second monitor.

Last updated:

Combo Notation

Strikeborn does not ship an official notation. This page is the dictionary for every route on combat, Yuji, and Guts. If a YouTube comment writes a different dialect, translate it here before you lab it over a ravine.

Keep the controls cheatsheet open while you read.

Symbols

TokenMeaning
M1Light attack
M1 x3Three lights in a row
M1 x4Full string, including the likely down slam
1 2 3 4Skill slots, not mobile glyphs
j.Jump or aerial version (j.4 = air slot 4)
b.Back / hold-S variant (b.1)
f.Forward variant if it actually differs
djDash
wjWall jump
padJump pad launch
> Then (sequence)
/Option (do one or the other)
[counter]The slot used as a counter, not as a swing
look-downCamera tech, not a skill name

Example from a Guts showcase idea:

M1 x3 > dj > j.4

M1 x3 > look-down > dj kick

Those are demonstrations, not a claim that the route is true at every ping. See the Guts guide.

How to write your own lab notes

  1. Name the character. Incomplete slots are not worth a card.
  2. Write the starter (M1 x3 or [counter] or pad).
  3. Write the convert (j.M1 or j.1).
  4. Write the ender (down slam, ravine dump, or disengage).
  5. Mark true? or otg? only after it worked ten times, not after it worked once on a standing dummy-like player.

Example template:

Yuji — M1 x3 > j.M1 > j.1 (true? __)

If you cannot fill the blanks without opening a 20-minute video, the route is not yours yet.

Common translation problems

  • TSB comments that say “m1 4 times then 1” assume the fourth hit launches. In Guts footage it does not. Translate with combat in mind.
  • JJS comments that name Divergent Fist or Cleave. Those are the wrong game. Use slot numbers until Strikeborn names settle.
  • Mobile players reading 1 as a keyboard key. It is slot one.
  • “Q” in Guts tech. On PC that is the typical dash key. On mobile it is the dash button. The tech is camera plus dash, not a secret fourth skill named Q.

What we will not write

  • Damage in parentheses we did not measure.
  • “100% true anywhere” on a 100-player server with lag.
  • Routes for Jinchuriki or Gon until they have kits.

When the community agrees on skill names (Carnage Grip is already close), we will allow those names in addition to slot numbers, never instead of them. Slot numbers survive a rename. Cute names do not.

Print this page or leave it beside the tools hub. If notation on a guide ever disagrees with this dictionary, this dictionary wins and the guide should be patched. Report that kind of drift the same way you would report a dead code: it is a wiki bug, not a skill issue.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Strikeborn early-access players.

What does j.4 mean?

Aerial version of skill slot 4. Confirm the air variant exists in your client before you chase it off a cliff.

What does b.1 mean?

Back-held variant of slot 1 (hold S or tilt back, then the skill).

Why don't you use official move names?

Most slots are unnamed in public notes. Carnage Grip is the exception. Slot numbers survive renames.

Is a written combo guaranteed true?

No. Notation is a language. Ping, patch, and server size decide if a sequence is true. Lab it ten times.
